Sustainable Swaps: Personal Care Edition

Discovering eco-friendly alternatives for your personal care routine can be both rewarding and impactful.

I’m sharing my favourite easy and budget-friendly sustainable swaps I’ve made this year. Join me on this journey of conscious choices that contribute to a more sustainable and mindful lifestyle.

P.S. These will also make lovely and thoughtful Christmas gifts! 🎁

Bar Soap & Soap Bag

Say goodbye to wasteful shower gel packaging and embrace the simplicity of bar soap. Bar soaps usually have a smaller list of ingredients, as they don't need preservatives to keep them shelf-stable.

To enhance my shower experience, I use an inexpensive natural, organic sisal fibre soap bag. It's excellent for exfoliation as it helps release dead skin cells and promotes blood circulation. Bid farewell to plastic-filled bath sponges and loofahs; a quick wash in the machine keeps the soap bag fresh.

🧼 Recommended: @gruum_hq for zero-plastic bar soap.

Essential Oils Perfume

Trade your regular perfumes for one made from ethically sourced essential oils. I opted for Lush's perfumes, crafted in-house with the finest oils.

As usual with Lush, you can return the packaging to be recycled at the store and they also have solid perfumes. I went with American Cream - inspired by the creamy milkshakes popular in American diners in the 1950s, with all the vanilla-strawberry sweetness that their devotees loved.

🌸 Recommended: @lush for ethically sourced essential oil perfumes

Reusable Bamboo Make-up Remover Pads

Make a sustainable switch from disposable cotton rounds to reusable bamboo makeup remover pads. Designed for long-term use, these pads are gentle on the skin and the environment. Toss them in the washing machine, and they're good to go. Crafted from natural bamboo and organic cotton without any plastic packaging, they offer a soft and effective way to cleanse your skin daily.

🧖🏻‍♀️ Recommended: @greenzla.earth for organic bamboo makeup remover pads.

Sustainable Toothbrush

It’s thought that the average person goes through around 300 toothbrushes in their lifetime. This durable and sustainable toothbrush from @discoversuri features a minimal design, an aluminum handle, and plant-based recyclable heads.

While it comes at a higher price, it's an long-term investment and I feel hopeful that we will have more affordable choices in the future when it comes to oral hygiene.

🪥 Recommended: @discoversuri for a sustainable toothbrush with recyclable plant-based heads.

Refillable Deodorant

Bid farewell to deodorants containing harmful ingredients such as parabens or aluminium. I was keen to try a deodorant that was natural, vegan and kinder to my skin, while still being effective. With a range of fragrances, this refillable deodorant ensures you stay fresh while being kind to your skin and the planet.

👃🏻 Recommended: @wildrefill for cruelty-free & vegan refillable natural deodorant. Get 20% OFF with code ELLIEDEMIREVA 🌱

Reusable razor

I’ve swapped other forms of hair removal for a high quality metal razor from @_weareffs. Not only are their products 100% cruelty-free, but they also recycle used blades. The commitment to quality materials ensures a sustainable and effective shaving experience, eliminating the need for single-use alternatives.

🛁 Recommended: @_weareffs for a reusable razor with blade recycling.

Make a positive impact on your personal care routine and the planet with these sustainable swaps. Gift yourself and your loved ones the joy of conscious living this Christmas.
