The Death Positive Libraries

The Death Positive Libraries is a collaborative research project between Redbridge, Kirklees and Newcastle Libraries and Northumbria University.

The project explores the concept of Death Positive Libraries using libraries as safe and trusted spaces to start supportive conversations about death, dying and loss.  Using speculative design the project explores the relationship between technology, creativity and death. It uses co-creation and public engagement as part of an iterative design cycle that aims to produce new knowledge about people’s relationship to their physical and digital legacies.

The project has been featured in The Guardian.

“Elena’s design work has a beautiful balance of form and content. She is able to connect with audiences and develop impactful design compositions that make people feel something.”

- Stacey Pitsillides, PhD, Assistant Professor at Northumbria University
